"The task of perception entails pulverising the world, but also one of spiritualising its dust."[1]

How do we move from molecular perceptions to molar actualities – from the minute to massive (attack), from small to vast. This is what Deleuze is trying to figure, (via Leibniz's monad schemata), when he writes about the stealthy arrival of the master, rod in hand, arm raised, ready to strike the dog who is eating its meal. The dog, however, senses the imminent danger, it smells the "hostile odour," so the element of surprise, shock, is somewhat attenuated. Each tiny perception (tiny electric ethologies) is both a passage and a component of a macro perception, that is, a perception that can be arrested, conceived of, reasoned over about and with. These tiny perceptions constitute an acute (intense, excruciating and critical) moment, "the animal or animated state par excellence: disquiet."[2]

The zen buddhist nun on the radio talks about the logic of the koan, ("the tree looks like a dog barking at heaven" (Jack Kerouac)), she says that the mind arrives at the end of content. Content-less — a space that is other than words — here, everything is here. The koan is only encountered in its own logic.

Theology and Philosophy often share ground. These alliances are a kind of passage, the cite of enigma, or sixth sense perhaps … in general unease and recognition.
