10. Feminine Principles in Hero Myth
The Feminine Hero
One of Jung's more interesting speculations was upon the relevance of the hero myth for both men and women. Jungians subsequently have developed an alternative hero model for women. Our thrusting but innocent young Feminine Hero goes through the following stages to achieve wisdom and gravitas;
Stage One of her journey begins when she leaves her 'Garden of Eden' in search of freedom and experience.
On the road, the young woman hero meets the powerful figure of the Seducer, and is awakened into the world (Stage Two).
But the Seducer turns out to be another captor, and the young woman learns she must slay the dragon of romantic love. She separates from the Seducer.
In Stage Three she suffers the painful loss of illusion, but through the realization that she must become her own saviour, she attains autonomy. In taking responsibility for her own life, she finds new significance in work.
